Giving rusty objects a second life

Over the past few months, we have started renovating the entire house. Many of the renovations are being done by professionals. However, there are a few projects that we decided to take on ourselves.

One of these projects was giving some rusty objects a new life. In this blog post, I would love to share our DIY strategy with you.

Step 1: Clean the rusty object

The first step is to clean the rusty object. For this step, we used different methods.

For objects that only had a little bit of rust, we placed them in vinegar for 24 hours. Afterwards, we used a brush or a scouring pad to clean the object.

For objects that had a lot of rust, we used S.O.S. pads.

With both methods, we made sure to wear gloves. When cleaning very rusty objects, we also used a mouth and nose mask.

Step 2: Now use a primer

After cleaning the object, it is important to use a metal primer. This creates an important base and helps the paint adhere properly to the object.

We also painted a few objects without using primer, but the result was definitely less beautiful.

Step 3: Paint the object

Now it is time to paint the object. Make sure you use high-quality paint when painting.

So don't just buy regular paint, but choose paint that is specifically made for metal objects.

For a beautiful result, I would recommend painting the object several times.

And tada! That was our very easy DIY strategy.

I hope you find it useful. You don't always have to buy new things when you can give an old object a new life.
