Practicing the life I want, here and now.

Updated: Mar 25

For a long time, I believed my dream life would begin “when” I had the ideal job, “when” I moved to the perfect place, or “when” I finally had more time, more money, or more clarity. But I have come to realize that the key lies in this: practicing the life I want, here and now. So that when my dream life arrives, I am ready to receive it and also able to hold onto it. Because receiving something and being able to sustain it are two very different things.

In my previous blog, I shared that it is our dream to create a care estate. Yes, I know this is a very big dream, one that cannot be carried without preparation. And if I do not prepare myself, I will likely mishandle it. Or worse, sabotage it simply because it feels unfamiliar. For me, preparation does not mean pretending to be somewhere I am not yet. It is also not about manifesting my dream, but about building capacity physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and in many other ways.

Today, I want to begin sharing the steps I have already taken to build that capacity.

I started by writing down the dream in detail. Then I looked at the list and identified the things I already have or already do. I placed a checkmark next to those. Now, step by step, I am working through the list, realizing what I can already create. In a way, I am building my dream, but on a smaller scale.

What does this look like in real life? For me, it means truly caring for our community home and community garden, but also for myself and my family. By doing this intentionally every day, I gain experience and wisdom. As a result, I carry out tasks, business processes, and family processes better, more professionally, and more efficiently. It also leads to better and more professional spaces, services, activities, products, community, and team. And ultimately, a happier and healthier life for me and my family.

A more specific example: I care for a vegetable garden filled with herbs and vegetables, a fruit and nut orchard, and a flower garden. Every seed I place into the soil is a quiet act of devotion. I am practicing a life where food comes from the land, where food is not bought, but grown, gathered, and shared. It is not a someday dream. It is happening now, imperfectly, season after season. And in the digging, watering, and waiting, I am becoming someone who not only longs for her dream life, but someone who is trying to live it.

Practice does not require a new city, a new career, or a clean slate. It asks you to show up differently in the life you are already living.

This is how we build the muscle to hold what we desire. Your dream life is not waiting for a perfect version of you. It is waiting for the practiced version, the one who has quietly been living it all along, here and now. Of course, I am still in the preparation phase and gaining much experience. In the coming blog posts, I will take you along and share the lessons I am learning during this phase of preparation.

For now, I would like to leave you with this question: “What is one way you are already practicing your future in the present?” Let’s talk about it in the comments.
