We are creating our very first wellness escape in Surinam!

Some places are just destinations. Others become part of who you are.
Suriname flows through my veins. It is my father’s birthplace, a place I have visited often and where I also lived for a period during my childhood. Without a doubt, it forms the backdrop of my earliest memories.
Last year, we started something that initially began as the renovation of our family home in Suriname. Simply restoring the house, step by step. But along the way, something shifted. A larger vision began to emerge.
The idea of creating a Homeostasis Wellness Escape.A place for vulnerable people, caregivers, and those who care for others, to step away from the demands of daily life. A place to breathe again. To find rest. To regain balance. What has become increasingly clear to us is that this is not only about receiving rest, but also about giving something back.
That is why we also want to create space for professionals, skilled workers, and experts who wish to share their knowledge with the local community. People who want to contribute to growth through their experience, craftsmanship, or leadership. This also includes church leaders who want to equip and strengthen local leaders and communities.
At the same time, we try where possible to give something back to the surrounding community by creating employment opportunities for local people throughout this process. Not as an end in itself, but as a natural part of how we build: together, with the people who live and work here. We are still a long way from where we want to be. The road ahead is long, and there is still much to do. But nothing truly meaningful is ever built overnight.
So here we are. Building step by step. With people who believe in the same vision. With work that slowly takes shape. And with the conviction that this will become more than just a renovation. It will become a place with meaning. A place where rest and growth come together. And where something lasting is allowed to take form.
