Communityhome Homeostasis was founded by Rockey and Melisa Halley. Communityhome Homeostasis consists of a family home for children, a room-training center for youth and young adults, a coaching/counseling and therapy space, a creative space, a community garden, and a workspace. Finally, the home is closely connected to various residents in the neighboring elderly complex.
Rockey Halley was born on August 31, 1993. His mother is Dutch and his father was Surinamese. Rockey has 11 brothers and sisters. At a young age, Rockey spent several years in a foster family.
This period had a very positive impact on his life. From a young age, he knew that he wanted to dedicate himself in the future to helping people of all ages who needed support. He therefore decided to study secondary vocational education in social legal services.
After completing this program, he continued on to higher professional education, where he chose to study social pedagogical care. His graduation thesis focused on trauma and attachment-related issues in children within family homes.
In addition to being a social pedagogical care professional, Rockey is SKJ-registered and also holds a GGZ agog registration. Rockey has also worked as a supportive ambulatory worker at HVO-Querido, as a group leader at the Salvation Army with homeless individuals, and temporarily as a social pedagogical worker in a residential group.
In his free time, Rockey enjoys playing various musical instruments, loves social gatherings and adventure, and enjoys sports.
Melisa Halley was born on February 19, 1992. Her mother was Antillean and her father is Surinamese. Melisa has 7 brothers and sisters. When Melisa was 3 years old, her mother passed away. Until the age of 5, her grandmother largely took on the role of caregiver. At the age of 5, Melisa’s father entered a new relationship. This change was very difficult for her.
At the age of 12, Melisa moved with her father and sister to a new home. From that age onward, she experienced various traumatic events. Melisa’s main outlets were art and school. She participated in many different art exhibitions across Europe and her work received an award. In addition, Melisa completed a bachelor’s bridging program in psychology through Utrecht University / Open University, as well as two master’s programs focusing on neurobiological psychology, developmental psychology, and educational sciences.
Melisa has worked for several years with children facing various challenges and educational delays. She also focused on her dream of opening a large home for children with additional needs. In her free time, Melisa enjoys being creative, gardening, spending time in nature, and being with the people dear to her.
Rockey and Melisa met when they were 17/18 years old in church. They quickly noticed that they shared the same dreams and vision for life. When Rockey was 24 and Melisa was 25, they got married. Since then, they have worked together toward the vision of starting a family home.
On April 19, 2022, they became employed by the Salvation Army and opened Family Home Homeostasis, a complex of no less than 768 m². A place where children who are temporarily unable to live at home can stay. They also became backup support for 4 young people living semi-independently in the same building.
In 2023, they also started projects for vulnerable elderly residents in the complex opposite them. As a result, Family Home Homeostasis took on a new role and became Communityhome Homeostasis. At the end of 2023 / beginning of 2024, The Green Garden was realized: a community garden.
Today, the focus is on realizing and further developing the garden and workspace, the coaching/therapy space, and the creative space. In the coming years, work will also be done on renewing the shared community space.
